Ep. 14 - Elliana McKay, The #1 Ranked Goalie In The SJFHL 2023-2024

Episode 14 of the Future Sport Podcast features Elliana McKay From Kahkewistahaw First Nation, who currently is a goalie for the Regina Rebels U22 Female Hockey team. In the Saskatchewan Junior Female Hockey League’s first season in 2023-2024, the First Nation Goalie Elliana McKay was ranked as number ONE on the goalie leader standings! 

Ellianna spoke about the struggles of being not only a female goalie, but about the obstacles she faced as an Indigenous female goalie from the reserve. She grew up in a household of goalies who had a passion for the game, with limited opportunities to play high-level female hockey, but that never stopped Elliana’s dreams of playing hockey at a elite level. She played on Team Saskatchewan for the National Aboriginal Hockey Championship, and then went on to make the Regina Rebels U22 roster. As an 18 year old, Elliana played her first season in the brand new SJFHL, and finished the season ranked as the number one goalie! 

Elliana had some insightful and inspiring word to share for all who listen, about a young goalie from the reserve who became number one in the province!
