The First Nations University of Canada hosted its 45th Annual Spring Celebration Powwow on April 20 and 21, 2024, at Regina’s Brandt Centre. The event attracted over 7,500 attendees, nearly 600 registered dancers, and 24 drum groups from across North America.
The powwow featured grand entries at noon and 7:00 pm on Saturday, and at 11:00 am on Sunday, with competitions across 32 dance categories. The singing contest, sponsored by SaskPower, saw top drum groups compete, with the Blackstone drum group winning the championship title.
The Tradeshow showcased nearly 50 vendors offering authentic Indigenous arts, crafts, and clothing. Traditional foods like Indian Tacos and soup with bannock were available at the Chili for Children food booth.
The powwow also included a Men’s 35-plus Traditional Special in honor of the late Tony Cote, a veteran instrumental at the First Nations University of Canada.
The celebration serves as a vibrant display of First Nations culture, traditions, songs, and dances, fostering community connections and cultural exchange.
